Louisville Area Women and Girls Celebrate SWAN Day on March 31
PYRO Art Gallery hosts writers, musicians, visual artists, dancers, in showcase
Supporting Women Artists Now!
Join an eclectic gathering of Louisville-area artists on Saturday, March 31, 1-2 pm. at PYRO Art Gallery, 909 West Market Street to celebrate the Sixth Annual Support Women Artists Now (SWAN) Day. Artists from their teens to the seventies will perform and present a wide range of work representing poetry, narrative, visual arts, music, storytelling and theatre.
The event will be emceed by Kathi E.B. Ellis, a Louisville-based theatre director. Performers and presenters include singer-songwriter Erin Fitzgerald; writers Erin Keane and Maggie Riley; storyteller Sheila Pyle; actors Hazel Bartlett, Megan Burnett, Kim Butterweck, and Haydee Canovas, poet Sheri Wright; and Ann Stewart Anderson of PYRO Gallery.
Kathi E.B. Ellis and Nancy Gall-Clayton have helped to organize each of Louisville’s five previous SWAN Day celebrations, and this year are delighted to partner with PYRO Art Gallery for the third year for this free event that embraces multiple art forms and honors women artists of all ages. Traditionally scheduled for the fourth Saturday in Women’s History Month, SWAN Day is a grassroots movement recognizing women’s contributions to the arts.
Ellis and Gall-Clayton have worked together on many projects for more than a decade and are committed to honoring the work of this community’s women artists.
