PYRO GALLERY PRESENTS

PYRO Gallery is thrilled to present "Slips & Scraps," a captivating duo exhibition showcasing the collaborative efforts of well-known Louisville artists John McCarthy and Shawn Marshall. The exhibition will run from May 31st through June 30th, with an opening reception on June 7th from 5:30 to 8:30 pm and an Artist’s Talk on June 30th at 2:00 pm.

"Slips & Scraps" invites viewers to contemplate the interplay between abstraction and representation, the natural world and the human-made environment, in a visually arresting dialogue between McCarthy and Marshall's distinct artistic practices. Through their collaborative efforts, McCarthy and Marshall offer an exploration of nature, humanity, and the ephemeral beauty of existence.

John McCarthy, well-known Louisville ceramic sculptor, ventures into the realm of abstraction. McCarthy's latest explorations defy conventional representations of nature, as he manipulates botanical elements to transcend their inherent forms. Through the manipulation of leaves, pods, seeds, and other organic motifs, McCarthy transforms his compositions into vibrant expressions, pushing the boundaries of natural representation.

Shawn Marshall presents a compelling array of mixed media works that delve into the intersection of human presence and the environment. Marshall's focus is in the connection of our impact on the environment. She meticulously integrates discarded and found materials into her layered abstract works. By incorporating materials such as paper, cardboard, wallpaper, magazines, lace, and fabric scraps, Marshall creates intricate "tapestries" that reflect the web of human existence and its impact on the world around us.
