Suzi Zimmerer: Here, I could tell you, are 32 envelopes I have watercolored. And inside them 32 letters. Or, I could tell you that I imagined Ila Frankwater, who loved writing letters to her friends and embellished her envelopes with watercolor and ink. And that these 32 were somehow saved. Or, I could tell you that I took this moment of the world to gather images into constellations of quirky personal meaning. All of these things are true.

Juli Edberg: “For me, the paper color and pattern is as important as the final shape.” Edberg’s process involves designing a paper, then glueing it onto tiles, and then tying them together with string over an armature. The technique was born in bookbinding. Are tiles reminiscent of pixels? This digital aura meshes with the handmade ethic in “a wonderful combination of the playful and the mysterious.” “An unstoppable optimism about how weird and beautiful the world is despite all its brokenness and sadness.”

Nancy Currier: You. Me. That’s what it’s about. The paint, the paper, the papier maché, they all come afterwards, they’re just an aside. And the only part that really happens? That’s the you and me. Well, you know what I’m talking about.

Keith Kleespies: The play is the thing.
