Show statement

August is a time of change.  We start the month in summer and end in fall. We have the freedom of summer, then the responsibilities in the fall.  Windows open—windows closed.  Planting and harvesting.

We ourselves are adapting to change. Last August, we were preparing for life in a pandemic. Now we are adapting to more freedom.  Then we were making art, but we didn't know when it would ever be seen. Then we were afraid. Now we have hope.

Last August, the plants didn't care. They had grown and lost their leaves, retreating to  dormancy. But this spring they emerged with a  spectacular display of beauty. Nature is an expert on moving from one phase to another.

The artists in this exhibition demonstrate their observation, reverence, and love of nature through their individual perspective and media:

Corie Neumayer through paintings, John McCarthy through ceramic sculpture, Norman Spencer- through woodcuts and linocuts, and Suzy Hatcher through pottery.
