PYRO GALLERY presents
About the artists
Sidebottom, a celebrated trompe l’oeil sculptor will show her most recent ceramic work. Her sculptures are so realistic, folks often try to pick up pieces of one of her assemblies and are amazed to discover the pieces are part of one of her incredible trompe l’oeil ceramic sculptures. Sidebottom can skillfully sculpt clay that masquerades as a cigar box filled with art supplies, well-worn gloves, or a shiny stainless-steel stethoscope in a leather doctor’s bag.
Since 1984, Sidebottom’s works have been seen in solo exhibitions and consistently selected to appear in juried and invitational exhibitions throughout the U.S., often earning purchase awards. Her sculptures are appreciated in personal and private collections in the U.S, Italy and Spain.
Joining Sidebottom in the show is her sister Beth Sharpe, a St. Louis digital graphic artist. Sharpe will show some of her digital prints of whimsical maps she overlays with three-dimensional objects from her collections - sometimes mid-century friction cars, sometimes children’s toys - using nostalgia to engage the viewer. Figure paintings in oil by Sidebottom’s son-in-law Clark Filio, a Brooklyn-based artist and producer of HBO How to With John Wilson, will also be on display as part of the show.
