More about the show…..

Artist Statement of Tad DeSanto
I don’t make “pretty pictures”, couldn’t do it if I tried. My art is made to make people think and  question the world we inhabit, sometimes with a little laughter along the way. I know it’s not for  everyone but that’s OK with me.

Artist Statement of Tia Wells
The theme of all my work is an emphasis on rich colors and realistic form. As I create my art the goal is for me to capture to the best of my ability the natural shape of the object or person I am painting. As I attempt to depict what I am observing as realistically as possible on my canvas, the essence of object or person I am painting begins to emerge. Before I apply the painted brush to the canvas, I usually sketch out what I plan on creating to have an outline to guide me. I start with bigger brushes to begin blocking in colors that make of much of the painting. Such as background colors or the main color of the object or person. After that is completed, I go in with a slightly smaller brush and begin painting the smaller areas of color that are either darker or brighter shades of the main color. The next step is that I go over the painting again about 2-3 more times to ensure the canvas is thicker in paint and richer in color. As well as to refine flaws of the painting. Next, I use a wash to create shadows, highlights, and reflective light. I am inspired by paintings from artists of the renaissance era, with their dark and eerie backgrounds contrasted by the highly lit central focus of that painting that was the figure. I am also inspired by contemporary artists such as Kehinde Wiley and his use of bright and saturated colors. I enjoy creating a series of work that can be combined into a collection. Overall, I continue to love creating art for the fun and process and hope you all enjoy viewing my work!
