About
Terry Spangler Dunham
My current work focuses on images that evoke a sense of sanctuary, places that feel restful and inspiring.
Some motifs I’m drawn to are interiors of historic buildings as well as the items and collections that reside in those spaces. The sense of permanence in these old structures is of course unreal, since nothing lasts forever. I’m also very attracted to the natural shapes and colors found in nature. These can provide that same feeling of sanctuary, but with a more vital energy since a painting is a snapshot of the shorter lifecycle. I’m interested in the juxtaposition of the sense of permanence we crave with what we make, and the untamed beauty of nature that is relatively short-lived.
I hold a BFA degree in drawing from the Kansas State University and a BA from the Pennsylvania State University, emphasis on drawing and photography. My current body of work is acrylic painting, some mixed media and drawing.
