Keith Auerbach : Photographer

Photographic artist Keith Auerbach, a native of Louisville, published his photos for 15 years in a weekly column in the local newspaper LEO (Louisville Eccentric Observer). These images won two Metro Louisville Journalism Awards and later appeared in his book, The Photographic Humor of Keith Auerbach, which won an IPPY - Independent Publishers Book Of The Year Award. He is the recipient of numerous other awards including the International Photography/Lucie Award.

Auerbach has had 20 solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 70 national and international group shows. His images have appeared in 25 magazines and in seven books.

On his artistic process, Auerbach states, "I love taking pictures and creating images. I aim for photographs that evoke feelings and moods, especially empathy, vulnerability, and acceptance. In taking photographs, I watch and wait for that one decisive moment when the ocean can be measured by the drop". 

Auerbach’s photographic and aesthetic interests range from humanistic photojournalism to abstract expressionism. His abstract images are created with an innovative technique in which he transforms color photographs into compositions that invite a psychological and spiritual response. 

In an extension of his humanistic photojournalism, Auerbach addressed the social issue of addictions with an exhibition for the recovery community that addressed the struggle of hopelessness and hopefulness that many recovering addicts experience.

In a collaboration with textile and fashion designer Payal Parekh, Auerbach applied his innovative techniques to create designs for a collection of horse-themed silk scarves known as Silkhorse. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/864344893/silkhorse-equine-design-handmade-silk-scarves). 

In the realm of public art, three of Auerbach’s images grace the doors in the Alley Gallery - Louisville Doors Project.
